Baseball Betting Odds at the Halfway Point

by WagerHome Blog on June 29, 2023

Following Wednesday’s slate of baseball games, 11 of the Major League Baseball’s 30 teams have played at least 81 games. By the end of this weekend, that number will include all 30 teams.

With the calendar ticking over to July on Saturday and baseball hitting the halfway pole, it’s a good time to see where your baseball futures bets stand.

World Series Champion

  • Atlanta Braves (+350)
  • Tampa Bay Rays (+475)
  • Los Angeles Dodgers (+600)
  • Houston Astros (+1000)
  • Texas Rangers (+1100)
  • New York Yankees (+1300)

The Braves are your clubhouse leader through the first half of the baseball season, but the hot start by the Rays has not cooled down. They are the top favorite in the American League. The Dodgers have fallen into third place in the National League West, but they are still a top World Series favorite.

American League MVP Award

  • Shohei Ohtani (-1200)
  • Corey Seager (+3000)
  • Wander Franco (+4000)

To be this big of a favorite with so much season still to go underscores just how special Shohei Ohtani is. As a batter, he leads the league in home runs and RBI, and as a pitcher, he is second in strikeouts, 10th in ERA, and first in batting average against. A true unicorn.

Baseball Betting Odds at the Halfway Point

National League MVP Award

  • Ronald Acuna Jr. (-190)
  • Corbin Carroll (+750)
  • Freddie Freeman (+750)
  • Luis Arraez (+2200)

Going 30-30 has been a benchmark of a great all-around offensive season. How about 30-70? That is what Ronald Acuna Jr. is on pace to do. He has 36 stolen bases and 19 home runs at the halfway point, and his OPS of .993 leads the National League.

American League Cy Young

  • Shane McClanahan (+265)
  • Framber Valdez (+300)
  • Kevin Gausman (+450)
  • Gerrit Cole (+600)
  • Shohei Ohtani (+1100)

This is a tight race, but being in the first place helps the Rays’ Shane McClanahan, as does his American League-leading ERA and 11-1 record. Houston’s Framber Valdez is second in ERA, while Toronto’s Kevin Gausman leads the league in strikeouts.

Ohtani is playing the fifth shortest odds to win his first Cy Young.

National League Cy Young

  • Zac Gallen (-165)
  • Clayton Kershaw (+425)
  • Spencer Strider (+750)
  • Zack Wheeler (+1200)
  • Logan Webb (+1200)

Zac Gallen is 10-2, and he has the Arizona Diamondbacks in first place. Chasing him and Arizona is Clayton Kershaw and the Dodgers. Kershaw is the last player to win the Cy Young and MVP in the same season. That was 2014, his third of three Cy Young wins.

Atlanta’s Spencer Strider leads all of baseball in strikeouts.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on June 27, 2023

It is time for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club. Read on to find out which golfer will come out on top!

We still have a couple of more weeks of the PGA Tour playing stateside before everyone heads across the Atlantic for the Scottish Open and then The Open Championship. The final major of the year is being held in Liverpool, England.

For now, we are in the land of Motown, before we head to the home of the Beatles. It is the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club, a course that has been around since 1899, but it is a newbie on the circuit. It was introduced to the PGA Tour just four years ago when Nate Lashley went -25 to win.

Favorites to Win Rocket Mortgage Classic

  • Tony Finau (+1200)
  • Rickie Fowler (+1400)
  • Collin Morikawa (+1500)
  • Hideki Matsuyama (+1600)
  • Max Homa (+1800)
  • Sungjae Im (+1800)
  • Justin Thomas (+1800)
  • Tom Kim (+2200)
  • Keegan Bradley (+3000)
  • Harris English (+3300)

It’s not a packed field of great golfers, but 14 of the top 40 golfers in the world are going to be at Rocket Mortgage Classic on Thursday. The highest-ranked of those 14 is Max Homa, coming in at No. 9 overall. He missed the cut at the U.S. Open and Travelers but was T9 at the Charles Schwab and T8 at the Wells Fargo.

Tony Finau is the 14th-ranked player in the world and the defending champion at Rocket Mortgage Classic. It is that fact that has him as the modest favorite to repeat, something that hasn’t been done in the short history here. Since winning the Mexico Open in April, it’s been a tough stretch for Finau, going T23, T72, CUT, T32, and T45.

Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Preview

Also high on the favorites board is Rickie Fowler, who has been red hot since May. He was T6 at the Charles Schwab, T9 at the Memorial, T5 at the U.S. Open, and T13 at the Travelers. And even before missing the cut at the PGA Championship prior to this stretch, he has five other top-15 finishes going back to the Phoenix Open.

Considering recent play, it’s a bit surprising that Finau is paying shorter odds than Fowler, who has made three cuts in four tournaments at the Detroit Golf Club.

Another golfer to keep an eye on is Harris English, at the end of the top 10 favorites. He missed much of 2022 with a torn labrum, but prior to that, he was a top-10 player in the World Golf Rankings, and he was a 2021 Ryder Cup choice.

He’s on the comeback from last year’s surgery, finishing T3 at the Wells Fargo, T12 at the Charles Schwab, and T8 at the U.S. Open.

You can already place wagers on The Open Championship, coming on July 20. There is, of course, baseball, NASCAR, MMA, and a football season that opens training camps in less than a month.

NBA Draft 2023 Aftermath

by WagerHome Blog on June 23, 2023

The worst-kept secret in all of sports is now a fact. French sensation Victor Wembanyama is officially a member of the San Antonio Spurs. He was selected with the first overall pick in Thursday night’s NBA Draft, ushering in a new era of basketball in the Alamo City.

The last two times the Spurs had the number one overall pick, they selected David Robinson and Tim Duncan. Both won Rookie of the Year, and both went on to win championships and all-time great status.

The smart money is on Wembanyama to do the same.

Odds to Win NBA Rookie of the Year

Victor Wembanyama (-225)

He is the most talked about prospect since LeBron James. He’s a can’t miss pick for the Spurs, and he will be great from his first NBA game on.

Scoot Henderson (+350)

Thanks to the addition of third overall pick Scoot Henderson, the Portland Trail Blazers may be able to rebuild their team without having to trade Damian Lillard. Henderson is an explosive scorer who comes into the NBA with two years of G League experience under his belt, which should mean that he is dangerous right away.

Chet Holmgren (+375)

Yes, Chet Holmgren of the Oklahoma City Thunder is eligible to win the Rookie of the Year award. The second overall pick in 2022 missed the entire season with a Lisfranc fracture, but he is just as highly touted now as he was a year ago.

NBA Draft 2023 Aftermath

The former Gonzaga Bulldog set a summer league record for most blocked shots in a game, and in his summer league debut last year, he had 23 points and six blocks.

Brandon Miller (+950)

As it turns out, the controversy around Alabama’s Brandon Miller did not cost him any draft position. He was the second overall pick of the Charlotte Hornets.

He will also spend his rookie season being compared to Scoot Henderson, the player the Hornets could have gotten instead. Miller is clearly talented, but he’s also slight, which could ding his effectiveness inside.

Amen Thompson (+1500)

The first of the Thompson twins, Amen is the newest member of the Houston Rockets, going to them with the fourth overall pick. He is an incredible athlete and should be great right from the start.

Cam Whitmore (+2000)

Falling to the Rockets with the 20th overall pick was Villanova’s Cam Whitmore. He’s an incredible talent who was expected to be a lottery pick, until reports of a few bad workouts caused him to fall.

Ausar Thompson (+2200)

The other Thompson twin was taken with the fifth overall pick by the Detroit Pistons. Many analysts are calling him at reach at No. 5, but he is a well-rounded basketball player, even without the potential upside of his brother.

Next Week’s NHL Draft

by WagerHome Blog on June 22, 2023

This week the NBA will select its stars of the future in their two-round draft, and then next week, it is the NHL’s turn to make dreams come true. There will be seven rounds, 224 total picks, and one pick that we have already written in on our draft boards.

Connor Bedard – First Overall Pick

Connor Bedard won’t be 18 until next month, and he won’t officially be a member of the Chicago Blackhawks until Wednesday, June 28. But he will be the first overall pick when the NHL Draft is held in Nashville, and he is a doozy.

Bedard was just named the IIHF’s Male Athlete of the Year to go along with his now three IIHF gold medals. Winning the International Ice Hockey Federation’s award was a guarantee for Bedard after he completed one of the best World Junior Championship tournaments in history.

He was just the fourth player in history to lead the tournament in both goals and assists, and this year for the Regina Pats of the WHL, he scored 143 points in just 57 games.

Chicago is going to get a great one.

Second Overall Pick

  • Adam Fantilli (-700)
  • Leo Carlsson (+600)
  • Matvei Michkov (+1600)
  • Will Smith (+2500)

Following the pick of center Connor Bedard, another center in Adam Fantilli, is expected to be selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the second NHL Draft pick. As a freshman at Michigan, he scored 63 points in 36 games, and he was awarded the Hobey Baker Award this season as the NCAA’s top men’s player.

Also in the mix is Swedish center Leo Carlsson, the top-ranked European player in the draft.

Next Week’s NHL Draft

Third Overall Pick

  • Leo Carlsson (-180)
  • Will Smith (+210)
  • Matvei Michkov (+600)
  • Adam Fantilli (+700)

The Columbus Blue Jackets own the third NHL Draft pick, and they are expected to grab the 6-foot-3, 18-year-old Carlsson. He was stuck on this wing this year during his professional season in Sweden and his time with the national team during the World Junior Championship. But he says that center is his natural position, and it’s where he’s at his best.

The desire for centers is also why Will Smith is so high on this list. Russian Matvei Michkov is a winger, and the best defenseman in the NHL draft is Austrian David Reinbacher. Smith is the highest-rated American in the group, and if the young center doesn’t go to Columbus with the third overall pick, he should go to San Jose with the fourth pick.

2024 NBA and NHL Betting Odds

by WagerHome Blog on June 14, 2023

For the first time in their 47 years in the NBA, the Denver Nuggets are NBA champions. For the first time in the history of Las Vegas, they have a professional sports championship unless you want to count the UNLV basketball team from 1990 coached by Jerry Tarkanian.

We won’t see either champion play again until October, but the betting on the champions for next season is already open.

2024 NBA Champion Favorites

Denver Nuggets (+450)
Boston Celtics (+550)
Milwaukee Bucks (+700)
Phoenix Suns (+900)
Golden State Warriors (+1200)
Los Angeles Lakers (+1200)

Two-time MVP and new NBA champion Nikola Jokic is establishing himself as one of the best players of all-time. He is just 28, and that makes him the oldest of the Nugget’s core. They are the favorites to win another championship because they were easily the best team in the playoffs, and they bring back everyone for another year.

The Boston Celtics are the second betting favorite because of the youth of stars Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. The team around them was a title contender this year, and it will be again a year from now.

The Miami Heat, who beat the Celtics in the NBA Eastern Conference Finals, are only ninth on the favorites list.

2024 Stanley Cup Champion Favorites

Colorado Avalanche (+700)
Vegas Golden Knights (+800)
Carolina Hurricanes (+1000)
Florida Panthers (+1000)
Edmonton Oilers (+1200)
Boston Bruins (+1200)
Dallas Stars (+1200)

Never before has an expansion team won the Stanley Cup as fast as the Vegas Golden Knights. In just their sixth season in existence, Vegas is the Stanley Cup champion. They took out the Florida Panthers in five games, outscoring their Eastern Conference opponent 26-12.

NBA

It was a dominant performance, but it was not enough to put them atop the favorites board to repeat as champions next year. That honor belongs to the Colorado Avalanche, the 2022 champion that was undone this last season by a host of injuries.

It’s worth noting that despite the historic season of the Boston Bruins, they are only tied for fifth on this list with the Oilers and Stars – two teams that lost to Vegas in the playoffs. The Bruins set the record this year for most wins in a season with 65, and most points with 135. However, they became the seventh President’s Trophy winner since 2000 to lose in the first round.

The playoffs in the NBA and NHL are over, but that means there are two drafts that can be wagered. Plus, futures bets for both leagues, the NFL, and baseball, keeps rolling on. U.S. Open 2023 Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on June 12, 2023

It is time for the U.S. Open 2023!

After the last two weeks, golf needs to catch its collective breath. We’ve had the “merger” between the PGA and LIV, although PGA commissioner Jay Monahan insists that it is not a merger. It just looks and acts like one.

Then Nick Taylor just dropped a 72-foot eagle putt in a playoff at the Canadian Open to become the first home-country hero to win that event in 69 years.

But there is no time to rest and no time to breathe, as it is U.S. Open week, with the venerable Los Angeles Country Club hosting its first professional golf tournament since the 1940 Los Angeles Open.

Favorites to Win U.S. Open

  • Scottie Scheffler (+700)
  • Jon Rahm (+1000)
  • Brooks Koepka (+1100)
  • Rory McIlroy (+1200)
  • Patrick Cantlay (+1600)
  • Viktor Hovland (+1600)
  • Xander Schauffele (+2000)
  • Jordan Spieth (+2800)
  • Max Homa (+2800)
  • Cameron Smith (+3000)

Scottie Scheffler, with 16 straight finishes of T12 or better, is the favorite. He was last year’s Masters winner and the runner-up at the U.S. Open. This year has a win at THE PLAYERS Championship and a runner-up at the PGA Championship. Scheffler also has experience at Los Angeles Country Club, helping to lead the U.S. Walker Cup team to victory in 2017.

The up-and-downness of Jon Rahm may make many bettors shy away from his small +1000 payout. He did win the Masters in April, but he finished T50 at the PGA Championship last month. However, he did win the U.S. Open two years ago, to go along with a T3 in 2019 and a T12 in 2022.

Is there a golfer who has a better month than Brooks Koepka? He won the PGA Championship, his fifth career major title, and then his move to LIV golf was justified by the PGA Tour last week. Now he can have his money, get back into the good graces of the PGA, and perhaps win his third career U.S. Open.

U.S. Open 2023 Betting Preview

Of course, Rory McIlroy is one of the favorites to win the U.S. Open. He’s one of the favorites at every major every year. But it’s worth remembering that his last actual win at a major was in 2014. At age 25, he had four major wins. Now, at age 34, he’s still at four. He’s gone 32 straight major starts without a win, although he did have three top-five finishes in 2022.

Home cooking may be a factor for both Patrick Cantlay and Max Homa. Cantlay is from Long Beach and played his college golf at UCLA, just two miles away from LACC. And Homa, while playing his college golf at Cal, shot a 61 at LACC during the 2013 Pac-12 Championship.

Pay Per Head Software

So many possible bets on the U.S. Open. Both the NBA and NHL have drafts coming up. Baseball, NASCAR, MMA, and so much more.

If you are an independent bookmaker, the only way to cover it all is with a pay per head partnership with WagerHome.com. WagerHome gives you a fully customizable website, access to their huge menu of sports and betting options, plus EZ Live betting.

NBA Finals 2023 Betting Update

by WagerHome Blog on June 8, 2023

With the Nuggets’ big win in NBA Finals Game 3 on Wednesday night in Miami, the home-court advantage once again shifts to Denver. The next game is in Miami on Friday night, but all that Denver needs to do from here on out is protect their home court.

The Nuggets have lost only one game this postseason at home. Yes, that was their last game at home against the Miami Heat, but they will be the heavy favorite in any game played in the Mile High City. Even the games in Miami, including the next one, sees Denver as the favorite.

Game 3 – Denver Nuggets (-3.5) at Miami Heat

The formula for victory for the Nuggets is pretty simple. Run the offense through Nikola Jokic, but don’t make the only offense. In Game 1, the two-time MVP had a triple-double with 27 points, ten rebounds, and 14 assists. And that last number is key. His distribution of the basketball led to big games from Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr., and Aaron Gordon.

In Game 2, Jokic had 41 points but just four assists and the supporting cast suffered, and the Nuggets lost.

In Game 3, the assist man was back, with Jokic finishing the game with yet another triple-double – 32 points, 21 rebounds, and ten assists. Murray scored 34, Christian Braun added 15, and the Nuggets cruised to the 109-94 victory.

NBA Finals Betting Update

On Friday, we should see more of the same. The ball coming into Jokic, and him finding the open man on the perimeter when the defense collapses on him. And when the defense keeps its defense tight along the outside, Jokic will go to the basket.

Series Score Odds

  • Nuggets 4-1 (-110)
  • Nuggets 4-2 (+325)
  • Nuggets 4-3 (+375)
  • Heat 4-2 (+1800)
  • Heat 4-3 (+1100)

Bookmakers are feeling so good about the Nuggets that they are paying less than even money on the Nuggets winning the next two games and secure their first-ever NBA title. Even if the series does the full seven games, Denver is the huge favorite, +375 as compared to +1100 for Miami.

NBA Finals MVP

  • Nikola Jokic (-650)
  • Jimmy Butler (+1000)
  • Bam Adebayo (+1400)
  • Jamal Murray (+2000)

Jokic has two triple-doubles in three games and is clearly the best player on the court. He is the easy favorite to add a Finals MVP to his already impressive trophy case.

If Miami were to stage a comeback and win this NBA Finals, one would expect that playoff Jimmy Butler will have to go off. Bam Adebayo has also been solid for the Heat, and he, too, would get some deserved MVP chatter.

Pay Per Head Software

Along with the NBA Finals, we are seeing a great performance from the Vegas Golden Knights in the Stanley Cup Finals. Plus, we have baseball, and golf’s U.S. Open is just around the corner.

Updated Odds for Baseball Postseason Awards

by WagerHome Blog on June 6, 2023

Summer is here, baseball has passed the one-third pole, and there are less than 100 games for each team between now and the end of the 2023 regular season.

We also have a much better idea of who has the staying power to win the American and National League MVP and Cy Young awards.

American League MVP Odds

Shohei Ohtani (-145)
Aaron Judge (+500)
Yordan Alvarez (+2000)
Mike Trout (+2500)

In the first week of June the baseball American League MVP race really is down to two players, Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge. And because of Ohtani’s status as a true baseball unicorn, it would take another 60 home runs from Judge to wrest the award away from the two-way star, Ohtani.

Barring injury, this is Ohtani’s award to win.

National League MVP Odds

Ronald Acuna Jr. (+110)
Freddie Freeman (+600)
Mookie Betts (+1200)
Pete Alonso (+1400)
Paul Goldschmidt (+2000)
Juan Soto (+2000)

The first place Braves are getting a great season from Ronald Acuna Jr. He has a .331 batting average, 12 home runs, and 26 stolen bases through the first weekend of June. Dodgers first baseman Freddie Freeman leads the National League in batting, just percentage points ahead of Acuna. Pete Alonso is the National League’s leader in baseball home runs and RBI.

baseball

American League Cy Young Odds

Shane McClanahan (+350)
Gerrit Cole (+400)
Framber Valdez (+800)
Shohei Ohtani (+900)
Kevin Gausman (+900)

When the season began Shane McClanahan was paying +1400 to win the A.L. Cy Young Award. Now the Tampa Bay ace is the favorite, with a 9-1 record and 2.02 ERA through the first weekend of June. Gerrit Cole was supposed to be at the top, and he hasn’t disappointed. The Yankees right-hander is 7-0 and coming off a dominant performance against the Dodgers.

And of course there is the indelible Shohei Ohtani, making an impact at the plate and on the mound.

National League Cy Young Odds

Spencer Strider (+190)
Zac Gallen (+240)
Clayton Kershaw (+1100)
Mitch Keller (+1200)
Logan Webb (+1800)
Zack Wheeler (+2500)

Atlanta’s Spencer Strider leads all of Major League Baseball with an incredible 113 strikeouts in just 69.2 innings. Zac Gallen of the Diamondbacks has allowed just three home runs in 13 starts, and he has Arizona tied for first in the N. L. West.

Tied with Arizona is the Dodgers, who continue to get great innings from Clayton Kershaw. The 35-year-old three-time Cy Young winner is healthy and very much in the mix for more postseason hardware.

Pay Per Head Software

Along with a full schedule of baseball every week, we are in the middle of the NBA and Stanley Cup Finals. Then the NBA and NHL Drafts are coming. There is also golf, NASCAR, the French Open, and so much more.

If you are an independent bookmaker, the only way to stay on top of it all is with a pay per head software partnership. With WagerHome.com you get a fully customizable website, access to their huge menu of sports and betting options, plus EZ live betting. See a demo today at WagerHome.com.
