The NHL Drops the Puck on its 107th Season

by WagerHome Blog on October 10, 2023

NHL is back, opening the new season with a triple-header on Tuesday night, including the Vegas Golden Knights hanging their Stanley Cup championship banner.

When the league played its first season in 1917, there were just four teams (only three finished the year), and the winner of each half of the 22-game season played for the NHL Championship and the O’Brien Cup.

Toronto beat Montreal for that inaugural NHL title and then advanced to play the winners of the Pacific Coast Hockey Association, which was won by Vancouver.

Up for grabs in the meeting between Toronto and Vancouver was a trophy that had first been commissioned in 1892 and was known by the 1917-18 season as Lord Stanley’s Cup.

NHL Odds to Win the 2023-2024 Stanley Cup

  • Carolina Hurricanes (+800)
  • Toronto Maple Leafs (+900)
  • New Jersey Devils (+900)
  • Edmonton Oilers (+1000)
  • Colorado Avalanche (+1000)
  • Vegas Golden Knights (+1200)
  • New York Rangers (+1300)
  • Dallas Stars (+1400)
  • Boston Bruins (+1600)
  • Florida Panthers (+1600)

The Hurricanes won the Metropolitan Division last year but were knocked out of the playoffs by the Florida Panthers. Carolina is the preseason betting favorite to win the Cup this year, just ahead of Toronto and New Jersey.

The Oilers and Avalanche have the shortest odds in the Western Conference, followed by the defending champion Vegas Golden Knights.

NHL Odds to Win Hart Memorial Trophy

  • Connor McDavid (-105)
  • Nathan MacKinnon (+900)
  • Leon Draisaitl (+1000)
  • Matthew Tkachuk (+1200)
  • Kirill Kaprizov (+1600)
  • Auston Matthews (+1600)
  • Jack Hughes (+1800)

There are a number of good players in the NHL that you can bet on to win the Hart Memorial Trophy, given to the league’s MVP. None of them are as good as Connor McDavid, who won this trophy last season for the third time.

He led the league in goals and assists, and his 153 points last season was the most in the NHL since Mario Lemieux had 161 in 1996. Only Lemieux, Wayne Gretzky, and Steve Yzerman have scored more points in a season than McDavid.

The NHL Drops the Puck on its 107th Season

NHL Odds to Win Vezina Trophy

  • Ilya Sorokin (+400)
  • Juuse Saros (+600)
  • Igor Shesterkin (+600)
  • Connor Hellebuyck (+700)
  • Andrei Vasilevskiy (+800)
  • Jake Oettinger (+1200)
  • Linus Ullmark (+1800)

Ilya Sorokin is an Olympic gold medalist, and the Islanders goaltender is the favorite to win this Vezina Trophy, given each season to the best goalie in the league.

Igor Shesterkin of the Rangers also won a gold medal in 2018, and he is paying +600. Andrei Vasilevskiy, the great goaltender in Tampa Bay, is paying +800.

Next Week’s NHL Draft

by WagerHome Blog on June 22, 2023

This week the NBA will select its stars of the future in their two-round draft, and then next week, it is the NHL’s turn to make dreams come true. There will be seven rounds, 224 total picks, and one pick that we have already written in on our draft boards.

Connor Bedard – First Overall Pick

Connor Bedard won’t be 18 until next month, and he won’t officially be a member of the Chicago Blackhawks until Wednesday, June 28. But he will be the first overall pick when the NHL Draft is held in Nashville, and he is a doozy.

Bedard was just named the IIHF’s Male Athlete of the Year to go along with his now three IIHF gold medals. Winning the International Ice Hockey Federation’s award was a guarantee for Bedard after he completed one of the best World Junior Championship tournaments in history.

He was just the fourth player in history to lead the tournament in both goals and assists, and this year for the Regina Pats of the WHL, he scored 143 points in just 57 games.

Chicago is going to get a great one.

Second Overall Pick

  • Adam Fantilli (-700)
  • Leo Carlsson (+600)
  • Matvei Michkov (+1600)
  • Will Smith (+2500)

Following the pick of center Connor Bedard, another center in Adam Fantilli, is expected to be selected by the Anaheim Ducks with the second NHL Draft pick. As a freshman at Michigan, he scored 63 points in 36 games, and he was awarded the Hobey Baker Award this season as the NCAA’s top men’s player.

Also in the mix is Swedish center Leo Carlsson, the top-ranked European player in the draft.

Next Week’s NHL Draft

Third Overall Pick

  • Leo Carlsson (-180)
  • Will Smith (+210)
  • Matvei Michkov (+600)
  • Adam Fantilli (+700)

The Columbus Blue Jackets own the third NHL Draft pick, and they are expected to grab the 6-foot-3, 18-year-old Carlsson. He was stuck on this wing this year during his professional season in Sweden and his time with the national team during the World Junior Championship. But he says that center is his natural position, and it’s where he’s at his best.

The desire for centers is also why Will Smith is so high on this list. Russian Matvei Michkov is a winger, and the best defenseman in the NHL draft is Austrian David Reinbacher. Smith is the highest-rated American in the group, and if the young center doesn’t go to Columbus with the third overall pick, he should go to San Jose with the fourth pick.

Stanley Cup Finals Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on May 31, 2023

We do know that we’ll have a new Stanley Cup champion this year. The Florida Panthers have played in the Stanley Cup Finals once in their history, but they lost in 1996 to the Colorado Avalanche. The Vegas Golden Knights have also been in the Stanley Cup Finals once before, but they lost to the Washington Capitals.

We will have a new champion, and another champion from a non-traditional hockey city.

Game 1 Odds

Florida Panthers (+115)
Vegas Golden Knights (-135)

The Golden Knights open up the series at home on Saturday night, after closing out the Stars in Dallas on Monday. And they are the favorites on home ice as the higher-seeded of the two teams. The Panthers were the lowest seed in the Eastern Conference, which is why they were matched up against the Bruins in the first round,

Obviously seeding didn’t matter in that series, or any of the games in Florida’s run to the Finals.

As a road team playing a higher seed, they are battle tested. They are also rested, having been off for 10 full days before Game 1.

Series Odds

Golden Knights (-130)
Panthers (+110)

The Golden Knights are the favorites in Game 1, and they are the favorites to win the series. Heading into the playoffs there were some questions about the Vegas goaltending. Not anymore, as Adin Hill has proven to be up to the task between the pipes, recording two shutouts against Dallas.

Exact Finals Score

Golden Knights 4-0 (+1000)
Golden Knights 4-1 (+500)
Golden Knights 4-2 (+500)
Golden Knights 4-3 (+400)
Panthers 4-0 (+1200)
Panthers 4-1 (+700
Panthers 4-2 (+450)
Panthers 4-3 (+550)

Oddsmakers believe that it is going to be a good series. The Golden Knights in seven games is paying the shortest odds. The longest shot is a Stanley Cup Panthers sweep. A sweep from either team is considered to be highly unlikely, even though the Panthers did just sweep the Hurricanes to get here.

Conn Smythe Trophy Winner

Sergei Bobrovsky (+200)
Matthew Tkachuk (+300)
Jack Eichel (+400)
Jonathan Marchessault (+650)
William Karlsson (+650)
Adin Hill (+1000)

Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky is the favorite to win the Conn Smythe Trophy, given annually to the best player in the playoffs, not just the Stanley Cup Finals. He has 10 wins in the playoffs and a goals against average of 2.21.

Stanley Cup

Panthers forward Matthew Tkachuk has nine goals and 12 assists in 16 playoff games, and he has the most points of anyone left in the playoffs. Jack Eichel has the most points for anyone on the Golden Knights, with six goals and 12 assists in 17 playoff games.

NHL Draft Player Props

by WagerHome Blog on May 9, 2023

On Monday, the Chicago Blackhawks were the big winners at the NHL Draft Lottery. They went into the night trailing both the Anaheim Ducks and Columbus Blue Jackets for the best odds to win the lottery’s top prize, but it was Chicago that came out on top.

With that top pick, their first time selecting No. 1 overall since 2007, they will undoubtedly take 17-year-old phenom Connor Bedard. With the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League this year, he led the league in scoring with 143 points.

Bedard also has helped the Canadian Under-20 National Team win two gold medals, and his 36 career points at the World Junior Hockey Championships is a new Canadian record. During this year’s gold medal run, he scored 23 points and was named the tournament’s MVP.

Bedard is the NHL draft pick. Even at only 17, he is already drawing comparisons to Connor McDavid of the Oilers and Sidney Crosby of the Pens. He has that kind of scoring ability. But who will go second to the Ducks? Who will go third to the Blue Jackets?

Those picks are not nearly as black-and-while as Bedard at No. 1.

NHL Draft Odds – Second Overall Pick

Adam Fantilli (-420)

There is no one in the NHL draft class like Bedard, but Adam Fantilli will be an excellent consolation prize for the Ducks if he is who they select. He won the Hobey Baker Award as a freshman at Michigan for being the NCAA’s best men’s hockey player this year. He is only 18, and he scored 63 points in 36 games.

Leo Carlsson (+680)

Leo Carlsson is a Swedish center who is also 18 and already 6-foot-3. In 15 international games this year for Sweden’s Under-20 National Team, he scored ten goals and had seven assists. His coaches and members of the media have compared him to Mats Sundin, a fellow Swede who was taken No. 1 overall in 1989.

NHL Draft Player Props

Matvei Michkov (+730)

At one time, Matvei Michkov was a challenge to Bedard for the No. 1 overall NHL draft pick. Bedard has put distance between himself and the young Russian but at no fault of Michkov’s. He’s a great scorer who broke Alex Ovechkin’s record for being the youngest player to suit up for the Russian National Team at only 16.

Brayden Yager (+2800)

The last of the top-four for the second pick, and top-five overall, is one of the best shooters of the bunch in Brayden Yager. This past season with the Moose Jaw Warriors, he scored 28 goals and 78 points. Yager was on the gold medal-winning Canadian Under-18 team at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup in 2022 and scored nine points in the five games.

The NHL Draft isn’t until the end of June, but you can bet on it now. As you can with the NHL Playoffs, the NBA Playoffs, baseball, Golf, NASCAR, and so much more. For independent bookmakers trying to keep on top of it all, you need a partnership with a top pay per head software provider.

Stanley Cup Finals 2022 Betting Preview

by WagerHome Blog on June 13, 2022

COVID interruptions have made this a longer than normal NHL season, but we have now reached the final series. The Stanley Cup Finals, the best finale to the best playoffs anywhere in professional sports, is set to drop the puck on Wednesday night in Colorado.

You have arguably the best team all season long, the Colorado Avalanche, against the best team from the previous two seasons, the two-time defending Stanley Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning.

It’s the best hockey of the season and the best betting of the sports summer.

Stanley Cup Finals Winner Odds

  • Colorado Avalanche (-190)
  • Tampa Bay Lightning (+155)

The Lightning are the defending champions, but that doesn’t seem to make much difference when betting on the ultimate series winner. The Avalanche are the big favorite to win the series as the better team this regular season and throughout the playoffs. Home ice also plays a role in those odds.

Stanley Cup Finals Series Final Score

  • Avalanche 4-0 (+800)
  • Avalanche 4-1 (+400)
  • Avalanche 4-2 (+375)
  • Avalanche 4-3 (+400)
  • Lightning 4-0 (+2000)
  • Lightning 4-1 (+1000)
  • Lightning 4-2 (+550)
  • Lightning 4-3 (+650)

The most likely result is a 4-2 win for the Avalanche. If the Lightning win the Cup again, a 4-2 win is also the most likely result. A seven-game win pays more than a six-game win, with sweeps paying long odds on both teams.

Series Spread

  • Avalanche -2.5 (+225)
  • Avalanche -1.5 (+105)
  • Avalanche +2.5 (-900)
  • Avalanche +1.5 (-350)
  • Lightning +2.5 (-275)
  • Lightning +1.5 (-125)
  • Lightning -2.5 (+600)
  • Lightning -1.5 (+275)

A couple of interesting notes about these series spreads. If the Avs cover a 2.5-game spread, they pay +225. But in exact series scores of 4-0 and 4-1, which are required to cover a 2.5-game spread, you get a bigger payout.

The same situation applies to the Lightning. At -2.5 games, you get +600. But at 4-0 and 4-1, you get payouts of +1000 at a minimum.

Stanley Cup Finals 2022 Betting Preview

Stanley Cup Finals Conn Smythe Trophy Winner

  • Cale Makar (+175)
  • Nathan MacKinnon (+200)
  • Andrei Vasilevskiy (+400)
  • Nikita Kucherov (+400)
  • Steven Stamkos (+1400)
  • Mikko Rantanen (+1600)
  • Gabriel Landeskog (+2000)
  • Victor Hedman (+2000)

As expected, the top of the odds board for the Stanley Cup Finals MVP is heavy with Avalanche stars. Cale Makar has had a terrific postseason, scoring five goals and 17 assists in 14 games. Nathan MacKinnon is second to Makar in playoff points, 22 to 18, but he has 11 playoff goals this year.

The shortest odds for the Avalanche belong to goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy and Nikita Kucherov, who had 69 points in just 47 regular-season games, and 23 points in 17 playoff games.

NHL Postseason: Betting Odds to win 2021 Stanley Cup

by WagerHome Blog on June 14, 2021

The 2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs are nearly concluding, but it’s not too late to get in on the NHL betting action. With a pay per head partnership with WagerHome.com, you’ll be sure to win big, even if you’re not the one getting your name on the Stanley Cup.

Here, we’ve listed the Stanley Cup odds for the final four teams, along with their recent betting trends to maximize your payouts.

Vegas Golden Knights +105

As the regular-season runner-up, the Vegas Golden Knights only became the betting favorite after taking down the top-seeded Colorado Avalanche. However, despite having the best odds, many fans and bettors alike believe Vegas will lose in the Stanley Cup round.

The +105 price may be a little too steep for bettors, especially if there are concerns about a matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. But entering the final round, they’re still a solid choice as a Cup-winning team. If the Golden Knights slow down the tempo as they did against Colorado, they will be a tough team to score against. Vegas has the star power to scoring on the counterattack as well.

Avalanche at Golden Knights Game 6 Preview: Vegas looks to complete series comeback, eliminate Colorado in six games - Knights On Ice

The +105 price may be a little too steep for bettors, especially if there are concerns about a matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. But entering the final round, they’re still a solid choice as a Stanley Cup-winning team.

Tampa Bay Lightning +270

The Lightning were +150 before a Game One loss at home to the New York Islanders. Still, Tampa Bay is a dangerous team. Goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy is arguably the best goaltender on the planet, and with Nikita Kucherov, Steven Stamkos, and Brayden Point all constant threats to score, the Lightning can stay hot in a hurry.

Expect some of the betting action to switch to Tampa Bay despite the Game One loss. As the defending Stanley Cup champions, the Lightning are still the team to beat. Getting them at +270 instead of +150 is enough of a difference that the betting action will slide towards the Bolts even after a loss.

New York Islanders +360

While Tampa Bay’s odds slipped a bit with the Game One loss, the Islanders saw a considerable jump in favoritism. Most books had New York somewhere around +600 to win the Cup, but they’re up to +360 after an impressive 2-1 win on the road. The Islanders held Tampa Bay off the scoreboard until a late power play allowed the Lightning to skate 6-on-4 and get a goal back.

Still, it wasn’t enough to break through Semyon Varlamov and the stingy Islanders defense. The Islanders are analytics darlings, and if they continue to play the way they have so far, New York could be hoisting the Cup for the first time since 1983.

Montreal Canadiens +1100

Battling back from the brink of elimination, the Montreal Canadiens are the team that just won’t go away. Similar to the Islanders, Montreal isn’t a high-volume scoring team and doesn’t have true game-breaking talent among their forwards, but the advanced stats show Montreal is doing everything right.

Carey Price is as good as it gets in net, leading all playoff goaltenders in save percentage (.935), and he is third in GAA (1.97). Montreal doesn’t allow many high-danger chances but takes advantage of the opportunities they’re given. The Canadiens also have an impressive 90.3% penalty kill unit and have scored four shorthanded goals in the playoffs (all other teams have combined for six shorthanded markers).

Updated Betting Favorites, Darkhorses, and Underdogs in the NHL Playoffs

by WagerHome Blog on May 26, 2021

The first round of the NHL Playoffs is winding down, and as we head into Wednesday’s action, three teams have already moved on to the next round, and three teams have seen their postseasons end.

No matter how far we get into the playoffs, a Stanley Cup winning bet can always be placed. And if you’re looking to make such a wager today, here is where the 13 remaining teams sit.

Here are the updated betting favorites, dark horses, and ynderdogs in the NHL Playoffs

Odds to Win the Stanley Cup

  • Colorado Avalanche (+260)
  • Boston Bruins (+500)
  • Toronto Maple Leafs (+525)
  • Vegas Golden Knights (+600)
  • Tampa Bay Lightning (+750)
  • Carolina Hurricanes (+850)
  • New York Islanders (+1500)
  • Winnipeg Jets (+1600)
  • Pittsburgh Penguins (+3000)
  • Florida Panthers (+4000)
  • Minnesota Wild (+6000)
  • Nashville Predators (+7500)
  • Montreal Canadiens (+12500)

Before the playoffs began, the Colorado Avalanche were paying +400. Following their sweep of the St. Louis Blues, the favorites to win the Stanley Cup have dropped to +260. With so many teams left, and so many possibilities, it’s unusual to see such a heavy favorite. But that is a reflection of just how good the Avs have looked all season long.

The Boston Bruins have also already won their first-round series, 4-1 over the Washington Capitals. On May 15th, a bet on Boston to win the Cup was paying +1150. But thanks to four straight wins to close out the Caps, the Bruins are now seen as the second betting favorite at +500. Awaiting Boston is either the New York Islanders or the Pittsburgh Penguins, and New York could clinch it on Wednesday.

In the North Division, aka the Canadian division of the playoffs, the Toronto Maple Leafs are the betting favorite. They were paying +700 before the playoffs started, and now that they’re up 3-1 on the Montreal Canadiens, a bet on the Leafs pays +525. Game 5 is Thursday night in Toronto.

Underdogs on the Move

Of the teams considered to be a longshot to win the Stanley Cup, the biggest mover up the board are the Winnipeg Jets. They began the playoffs at +3500 and were supposed to lose to the Oilers in the first round. Instead, the Jets swept the Edmonton Oilers, 4-0, and are now paying +1600 to win the whole thing. They will play the winner of Toronto and Montreal in the second round.

The biggest drop down the board is the Minnesota Wild. The Wild got a win in Game 5 to stay alive in their first-round series with the Vegas Golden Knights, with Game 6 coming Wednesday night and Vegas leading 3-2. The Wild opened the playoffs at +1800 to win the Stanley Cup but are now paying +6000. Even if they do manage to win the next two and advance to the second round, Colorado awaits.

First-Round Betting Picks for Stanley Cup Playoffs

by WagerHome Blog on July 30, 2020

When the NHL drops the puck on Saturday for the start of the run for the Stanley Cup, it will be 143 days since the season was paused in March. The league has added a new team since then – the Seattle Kraken – but they haven’t played a single minute of meaningful hockey.

Give yourselves a round of applause for surviving this long, and for the absolute treat that is in store for us in the coming weeks. Not only do we get August hockey for the first time ever, but the Stanley Cup Playoffs – always one of the best events on the sports betting calendar – is going to be bigger and better than ever.

We currently have 24 total teams, eight qualifying series, and for the first time, a round-robin between the top four in each conference to determine seeding.

Minnesota Wild (+110) over Vancouver Canucks

While the rest of the skaters will be working to get back their legs, goaltending will have the advantage in the early stages of this tournament. It’s always key anyway (see: St. Louis Blues 2019 Stanley Cup Champions), but this year even more so.

Minnesota has the better goaltending, and, just as important, more defensive control of their back zone. This is a close matchup – maybe even a tossup – which means the smart money is on the positive number, which is the Wild.

Pittsburgh Penguins (-230) over Montreal Canadiens

It takes a lot to recommend putting money down on a -230 bet. But “a lot” is exactly how to describe the talent disparity between these two teams. A bad patch in early March is the only reason Pittsburgh is even stuck in the qualifying round.

On the other side, Montreal is ranked 24th out of the 24 teams still alive, and they finished the season in March with just four wins in 14 games.

If you like easy money, you like Pittsburgh.

Round Robin Odds

Both conferences will see four-team round-robin battles for the top seed.

Eastern Conference

  • Boston Bruins +140
  • Tampa Bay Lightning +185
  • Philadelphia Flyers +550
  • Washington Capitals +550

Western Conference

  • St. Louis Blues +175
  • Colorado Avalanche +225
  • Las Vegas Golden Knights +300
  • Dallas Stars +550

Boston is on a revenge tour after losing Game 7 in the Finals last year. The layoff helps their legs immensely, and they are a safe bet to emerge as the No. 1 seed.

stanley cup

The Blues are the defending champions and the favorites in the West. But at +225 a little money on the Avs feels like a good value bet.

Pay Per Head Software

With five games on Saturday, five more on Sunday, and another six on Monday, NHL betting is going to be on fire. To manage the rush and make the most of your profit opportunities, independent bookmakers really should be partnered with a pay per head software provider.

MLB, NBA, NHL All Set to Return in July

by WagerHome Blog on June 30, 2020

Normally, the sports calendar in July is so slow that ESPN puts out its annual award show, The Espys, just to help fill the void until things return. With only baseball to fill our weeks, and NFL training camps beginning at the end of the month, sports fans and sports bettors know that July is the best time to take family vacations.

Not this year.

Get ready for the greatest month of July the sports world has ever seen.

The Return of Baseball

Finally, after multiple weeks of negotiating, fighting through the media, telling us the season was 100% going to happen, then not happen, and then happen again, MLB and its players union have an agreement to begin the season on July 23.

It will be an all-out 60-game sprint to the playoffs and a season unlike anything we’ve ever seen before, with all teams only playing games against their division or the corresponding regional division in the other league (NL East vs. AL East, and so on).

NBA Seeding Games and Playoffs

One of the reasons the NCAA Tournament is so great is that there is no waiting for basketball to start. Games tip off early, and never seem to stop. Now imagine an NBA world like that. How amazing would it be?

Imagine no more, because when the NBA resumes on July 30, they will play 88 seeding games to finish out the season in just two weeks time. Twenty-two teams, three courts, four television networks (TNT, ESPN, ABC, and NBATV), and games starting as early as 12:30 pm ET through as late as 9 pm ET.

You can’t really go anywhere at the moment, so grab your remote, your favorite betting app, and prepare for NBA basketball overload.

NHL Playoffs

A Stanley Cup Playoffs like we’ve never seen before will also be coming to our televisions in late July. Twelve teams from each conference are in, with the top four teams in each playing a round-robin tournament for seeding, while everyone else plays in a best-of-five series for the right to get into the final playoff bracket.

return

The NHL still hasn’t decided which cities will serve as hubs for these games, or when exactly players will report. A new CBA is close to finalization, which, along with creating labor peace for the next six years, will create the return-to-play protocols, including a date certain for the resumption of training camps and the playoffs that follow.

Pay Per Head

As the saying goes, get in while the getting is good. And the getting is about to get really good with all the sports action and betting that is coming our way.

The best bookies need the best bookie software and a pay per head service that can truly enhance their business. For a nominal price per head, bookmakers get a fully customizable website, detailed client reports, 24-hour customer service, and all the sports and automated odds and lines your clients could ever want. Restart Updates For NBA, NHL; MLB Negotiations

by WagerHome Blog on June 11, 2020

You can now get a haircut, go to a restaurant, and very soon you will be able to watch major American team sports on television. We’ve almost made it. Congratulate yourself, and then get ready for the wildest summer of sports you’ve ever seen as leagues continue to put together their plans to restart.

NBA Going to Orlando

The NBA’s return won’t happen until July 31, but when it does, watch out. If you thought two months of playoffs with 16 teams was intense, the restarted NBA will feature 22 teams, eight seeding games, a play-in tournament, and then a full playoff schedule of 16 teams, with every game taking place at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando.

We’ll get the draft lottery at the end of August and October will feature the end of the NBA Finals, the Draft, and the start of free agency. Then, a new season is set to begin Dec. 1.

All of this has been approved by both the league and players union, but, as with everything in the sports restart world of COVID-19, it’s all subject to change.

NHL With 24-Team Playoffs

One-upping the NBA is the NHL’s agreed-upon restart format. The top four seeds in each conference will play a round-robin to determine final seeding, while the other 16 teams (seeds five through 12 in each conference) will play best-of-five series to determine who moves on to face those top seeds.

An exciting change and one many hockey fans have been pushing for long before this season, is that each playoff round will be reseeded. Instead of a hard bracket, which would render the round-robin of the top seeds moot, the top seed will always face the lowest remaining seed.

Teams have begun to return to their practice facilities, and the league hopes to resume play by late July/early August in two yet-to-be-selected hub cities – one for all Eastern Conference games and the other for all Western Conference games.

MLB Remains A Mystery

For weeks we have heard: “Don’t worry, there is too much money at stake for baseball to cancel its full season.”

Maybe that’s the problem. There is simply too much money at stake, both for 2020 and beyond, for MLB and its players union – two long-time adversaries – to come together.

Sliding scales, prorated pay, and different season lengths have all been discussed. Even the dreaded label “salary cap” has been said.

They’ve blown past their self-imposed June 1 deadline to get a deal done, but negotiations do continue. So does that mean there is still hope for a baseball season? Las Vegas oddsmakers say yes.

There is still a 75% chance a season will be played. But with each passing day, that becomes a longer bet.
